The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
